A Date Which Will Live in Infamy — December 7th
The attack that brought America into World War II. Pearl Harbor stretches across the board — Battleship Row lining Ford Island with the great warships moored in pairs. The USS Arizona sits at her berth, moments from catastrophe. Japanese torpedo planes skim the harbor surface at mast height. Dive bombers plunge through anti-aircraft fire. Hickam Field's hangars burn on the shore. The harbor water is rendered with extraordinary detail — oil slicks, torpedo wakes, and the desperate efforts of sailors in the water. Wheeler and Kaneohe airfields show rows of aircraft caught on the ground. This is a memorial as much as a chess set.
